AMERICA: COMMUNION FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If you’re new to faith or you have been journeying through it for many years, you may still have some questions about communion. Communion has been an incredible gift to us and sharing that with others is our privilege. We share some important things to remember about communion, and how we are ready to partner with you as The Miracle Meal.
WHAT IS COMMUNION?
The bible teaches us that communion is an act of remembrance for what Christ sacrificed for us on the cross. During the last supper, Christ broke bread with His disciples and offered them a sip of wine from a cup. He shared that the bread represented His body and that the wine represented His blood spilled for us.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF COMMUNION?
Communion reminds us of the sacrifice that Christ made for us. It declares the gospel and displays Christ’s love for the church and His people. We are privileged to give thanks for that sacrifice through the act of communion.
HOW FREQUENTLY SHOULD COMMUNION BE OBSERVED?
The bible does not have a commandment about how often we should take part in communion, however the first church in Acts 2 devoted themselves to the breaking of bread. This seems to suggest that communion was a regular part of their gatherings. We don’t see this as a command, but an honour to keep communion as a consistent part of our lives. In church and at home.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNION?
Anyone who believes in the sacrifice of Christ and believes that He died for their sins can participate in communion. It does not save anyone or redeem them, only inviting Christ into their life can do that. But it does act as a reminder of the gospel and draw us back to the cross.
WHAT ARE THE ELEMENTS OF COMMUNION?
The bread or wafer represents the body of Christ that was broken and torn on the cross. The cup of wine or juice represents His blood that He so willingly spilled for the sins of humanity.
IS COMMUNION ONLY TO BE PRACTICED INSIDE A CHURCH SERVICE?
The bible talks about the church sharing communion together, but the local church looks different today than it did back then. We as individuals are called to be the church, and therefore we can partake in communion in church, at home or in small ministry groups. Our remembrance of Christ and His sacrifice is not only limited to a Sunday service. Let us allow ourselves to remember Him always.
We at The Miracle Meal want to invite you to partner with us as we bring communion to churches and to homes across America. Not only do we have pre-packaged communion cups available in different quantities for the size of your congregation, but we also have a 21 day prayer pack for you to share at home. As an added piece of encouragement, why not gift someone you know with the 21 day prayer pack as well. It’s the kind of gift that will keep on giving, into eternity.
