Christmas Is God Coming Near
Christmas is more than the story of a baby in a manger—it’s the beginning of God’s rescue plan for humanity. The birth of Jesus and the cross of Jesus are inseparable. One cannot exist in purpose without the other.
At Christmas, we celebrate Immanuel—God with us (Matthew 1:23). God stepped into human history, not as a distant ruler but as a vulnerable child, choosing to live among us so He could ultimately save us.
Jesus was born to die. The manger points directly to the cross. Jesus said of Himself:
“Then Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” — Luke 19:10 His mission began at birth, but it was fulfilled at Calvary. Christmas is the declaration that God sent His Son with purpose—to redeem the world.
God Sent His Only Son Because of Love. The heart of Christmas is John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…” Christmas is the giving.
The cross is the saving. Jesus was God’s gift to humanity—offered in love, accepted by faith. The Baby in the Manger Became the Savior on the Cross. The same Jesus wrapped in swaddling cloths would one day be wrapped in a burial cloth. The same Jesus laid in a manger would one day be laid in a tomb. But the story doesn’t end there—He rose again so we could have eternal life.
Christmas Sets the Stage for Easter. Without Christmas, there is no cross. Without the cross, Christmas has no power. Christmas is the celebration of hope arriving. The cross is the celebration of hope fulfilled.
The resurrection is hope eternal.
